FOR COLORED GIRLS

First produced in 1976, Ntozake Shange's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf remains one of the most celebrated and essential works in American theatre. A choreopoem woven from poetry, music, and movement, it follows seven Black women — each named for a color — as they share stories of joy, grief, desire, survival, and the fierce, complicated beauty of simply existing in the world.

R.C. Riley performed as Lady in Red in this production with The Drama Group, bringing raw power and deep compassion to one of theatre's most iconic roles. Cast members described the rehearsal room and stage as a space of safety, generosity, and vulnerability — the same qualities R.C. brings to every space they inhabit.
